Perhaps the most vital person I have ever met is an Italian professor of philosophy who teaches at the University of Pisa.Although I last met this man eight years ago, I have not forgotten his special qualities.

First of all,I was impressed by his devotion to teaching. Because his lectures were always well-prepared and clearly delivered, students swarmed into his classroom. His followers appreciated the fact that he believed in what he taught and that he was intellectually stimulating.Furthermore, he could be counted on to explain his ideas in an imaginative way, introducing such aids to understanding as paintings, recordings, pieces of sculpture, and guest lecturers.

Once he even sang a song in class to illustrate a point. Second, I admired the fact that he would confer with students outside of the classroom or talk with them on the telephone. Drinking coffee in the snack bar, he would easily make friends with students. Sometimes he would challenge a student to a game of chess. At other times, he would join groups to discuss subjects ranging from astronomy to scuba diving. Many young people visited him in his office for academic advice; others came to his home for social evenings.

Finally,I was attracted by his lively wit. He believed that no class hour is a success unless the students and the professor share several chuckles and at least one loud laugh.Through his sense of humor, he made learning more enjoyable and more lasting. If it is true that life makes a wise man smile and a foolish man cry, then my friend is truly a wise man. Probably the best example of his wit is this bit of wisdom with which he once ended a lecture:“It is as dangerous for man to model himself upon his invention, the machine,as it would be for God to model Himself upon His invention.”

australia is one of the famous oceanian country. the country is famous for its wool production and seashore tour. as the climate there is warm and comfortable, many people spend vocations there every year. i’m a super fan of water entertainment, so i choose it as my destination.in australia, the sky is bluer than blue, the clouds are whiter than white, all the local people enjoy an optimistic and active life. they also show their kindness and enthusiasm to the tourists.

the first step should be sydney opera which is among the most brilliant and splendid architectures in the world. many world-class plays are put on in it .the surface and shape of it is like a seashell with glory decorations inside.

then melbourne is a good choice to be as the net step. in melbourne, skin screen is a must to take with as the sunshine is upset and may burn your skin. the most attractive thing to me is the australia open, which is one of the biggest world-class tennis competition. many great players such as roddick federer and its local player hewitt etc. gather to compete. it’s really a feast for the eyes.

australia is also home to one of the most challenging and eciting surfing and diving projects. as we know, it is always called“a country riding on the back of sheep”. from the interesting saying ,we can know something about the rich wool-production country. if you love animals, kangaroos and kaolas are good company to you .so don’t forget australia when you plan a trip.

  (My ideal College life)

In my understanding, if we refer to an ideal college life as a formal western dinner, then a high GPA, that is, Grade Point Average, should be the main course, while an active part in activities, together with associations, means the appetizer. Some romances, of course, play the role as desserts. They are the 3 key elements for an ideal college life.

Those, however, are not what college life is all about. As we all know, college is wildly different from middle school. It connects not only adolescence to adulthood, but also the ivory tower to the real society. Therefore, the ideal college life is that I become matured both physically and mentally, and that I obtain qualified academic knowledge and get well prepared for society at the same time.

Under this circumstance, I never expect my college life to be too ideal, or you can call it too perfect. It is not realistic to make all things on my own way, with everyone liking me, winning the first prize all the time, and so on. Of course, I’d like to lead a carefree life. However, this does little good to my future. What really helps is hardships like failure, betrayal, and unjust treatment. Only after experiencing those can I know what society is like, and what life is like.

To conclude my speech, I wanna say, some positive experiences are surely part of the ideal college life. But, I should not forget about the negative sides. They are not less necessary.

men fear death, as children fear to go in the dark; and as that natural fear in children, is increased with tales, so is the other. certainly, the contemplation of death, as the wages of sin, and passage to another world, is holy and religious; but the fear of it, as a tribute due unto nature, is weak. yet in religious meditations, there is sometimes miture of vanity, and of superstition. you shall read, in some of the friars鈥?books of mortification, that a man should think with himself, what the pain is, if he have but his finger鈥檚 end pressed, or tortured, and thereby imagine, what the pains of death are, when the whole body is corrupted, and dissolved; when many times death passeth, with less pain than the torture of a limb; for the most vital parts, are not the quickest of sense. and by him that spake only as a philosopher, and natural man, it was well said, pompa mortis magis terret, quam mors ipsa. groans, and convulsions, and a discolored face, and friends weeping, and blacks, and obsequies, and the like, show death terrible.

it is worthy the observing, that there is no passion in the mind of man, so weak, but it mates, and masters, the fear of death; and therefore, death is no such terrible enemy, when a man hath so many attendants about him, that can win the combat of him. revenge triumphs over death; love slights it; honor aspireth to it; grief flieth to it; fear preoccupateth it; nay, we read, after otho the emperor had slain himself, pity (which is the tenderest of affections) provoked many to die, out of mere compassion to their sovereign, and as the truest sort of followers. nay, seneca adds niceness and satiety: cogita quamdiu eadem feceris; mori velle, non tantum fortis aut miser, sed etiam fastidiosus potest. a man would die, though he were neither valiant, nor miserable, only upon a weariness to do the same thing so oft, over and over. it is no less worthy, to observe, how little alteration in good spirits, the approaches of death make; for they appear to be the same men, till the last instant. augustus caesar died in a compliment; livia, conjugii nostri memor, vive et vale. tiberius in dissimulation; as tacitus saith of him, jam tiberium vires et corpus, non dissimulatio, deserebant. vespasian in a jest, sitting upon the stool; ut puto deus fio. galba with a sentence; feri, si e re sit populi romani; holding forth his neck. septimius severus in despatch; adeste si quid mihi restat agendum. and the like. certainly the stoics bestowed too much cost upon death, and by their great preparations, made it appear more fearful. better saith he qui finem vitae etremum inter munera ponat naturae.

it is as natural to die, as to be born; and to a little infant, perhaps, the one is as painful, as the other. he that dies in an earnest pursuit, is like one that is wounded in hot blood; who, for the time, scarce feels the hurt; and therefore a mind fied, and bent upon somewhat that is good, doth avert the dolors of death. but, above all, believe it, the sweetest canticle is, nunc dimittis; when a man hath obtained worthy ends, and epectations. death hath this also; that it openeth the gate to good fame, and etinguisheth envy.

The period of 1986—1990 saw great changes in the diet of the Chinese. Grain, which used to be the main food of most people in China, is now playing a less important role. On the other hand, the meat and fish has increased rapidly. The changes in diet can be accounted for by a number of factors. First, people are much wealthier than before. With higher income, they can afford to buy good foods. Another factor is that people have realized the importance of a balanced diet to their health. Lack of certain amount of meat or milk, for example, will result in poor health. Finally, owing to the eeonomic reform, meat, chicken, fish and milk, which were scarce in the past, are produced in large quantities. For all these reasons, what was formerly called "the basket of vegetables" has. To sum up, insignificant as those changes may seem, they are the signs of the improved economic condition in China. We believe that as long as the effort continuous in reform and opening to the outside world, there will be greater changes in people's diet in the future.

“In myclass, there are two Japanese and one American. We are getting along well andit’s fun to study together with people from different cultures.” This is how acollege student describes his class. Recently with rapid development ofeconomy, China is embracing more foreign students who are eager to learnChinese and know about Chinese culture. In my opinion, a mixed class is morepreferable to an exclusive one in terms of benefits of both foreign and Chinesestudents.

  “我們班有兩個日本人,一個美國人,我們相處得很好,和來自不同文化的人一起學(xué)習(xí)很有趣“。這是一個學(xué)生描述他的班級。最近隨著經(jīng)濟的發(fā)展,中國有許多想學(xué)習(xí)中文和了解中國文化的外國人。在我看來,混合班對外國人和中國學(xué)生都有益處。

I have reason to support my view. Foreignstudents may find it very helpful to further improve their language skills in amixed class. Provided that their Chinese is competent enough to follow thelectures, a mixed class furnishes them with a golden opportunity to brush uptheir Chinese proficiency and understand Chinese people. Only in this way canthey get into closer contact with Chinese. Coming from afar, they are reluctantto be separated and treated as “ foreigners”. Hence to their benefits, weshould not set barriers for their deeper involvement. Only by mixing withChinese students can they gain a better knowledge of Chinese culture.

Taking into account of all these factors, wemay arrive at the conclusion that it is beneficial to adopt the practice of amixed class. A seemingly trivial event as it is in study, it may exert aprofound impact on both students’ individual life and cross-culturalcommunication.
