Student Investors in the Stock Market
China's stock market is luring students looking to sec how their textbook teachings fare in real life. While there arc no concrete data on the student- investor, business professors say tbe market boom has boosted the number of students looking to play around with stocks. They invest in the stock market with money from parents and sometimes with amount equal to several times their annual tuition.
Some people are alarmed at the trend. As investing in the stock market involves many risks, they say, college students are very likely to lose, which may put students' &miiy assets at risk. However, some are supportive. As more and more students become sbarebolders, they will help raise tie general quality of shareholders and there will be more rational stock buyers in securities market, which is actually a good thing.
In my view, college students may give stock investment a try if possible. Stock investment may be a way to make fast money and help finance students* schooling. Even if the students are likely to lose in the stock market, it may still bring about valuable investment experience — they can、learn if they don't tiy.
spring set in early this year. some of my neighbors began to grow flowers. there were morning glories, jasmine, cactus, and the like in their flowerpots. i wanted to have a try myself. but i had neither knowledge nor eperience in such matters. fortunately, i came across a book on plants in the library. i read the relevant chapters, which left me with the impression that any plant would grow luuriantly if you could supply it with sufficient fertilizer and water. of these two essential factors, fertilizer was obviously by far the more important one.
according to what i had learnt from the hook, i sowed some seeds of morning glory in a flowerpot with a lot of fertilizer, and watered them everyday. i really took good care of them and eagerly awaited their sprouting. but,be that as it may, they just didn't come up. when half a month had elapsed,i was absolutely disappointed. i dug some of the seeds out of the soil and found they had already rotted! why they had rotted defied my analysis. so i went to consult one of my neighbors. he told me my failure was due to my misunderstanding of the hook, and the fact was that i had overfed themwater or fertilizer may be a two-edged sword.
i think i must draw a lesson from this failure——never go beyond the limit even if for good purpose.
Living in a Large Modern City or in the Country?
"Avoid the rush-hours" must be the slogan of large cities the world over. Wherever you go, especiailat week-ends or on holidays, you' 11 find that the trains are packed, streets crowded, buses queued, restaurant tables shared. MoreOver, the smallest unforeseeh event like a power-cut, an exceptionally heavy snowfall or rainfall can bring about conditions of utter inconvenience and chaos.
City-dwellers are obliged by their environment to adopt a wholly unnatural way of life. They lose touch with nature and all the simple, good things of life like sunshine and fresh air at a premium. Tall buildings block out the sun. Traffic fumes pollute the atmosphere,The flow of traffic goes on unceasingly and the noise-never stops.
The funny thing about it all in a large modern city is,that you pay dearly for tht "privilege" of living. The demand for accommodation is so great that it is often impossible for ordinary people to buy a house/flat of their own. Furthermore, the cost of living is very high. Just about everything you buy is likely to be more expensive than it would be in the country.
In addition, city-dwellers live under constant threat. The crime rate in most cities is very high. Houses are often burgled.Cities breed crime and violence and are full of places you would be afraid to visit at night. If you think about it, they are not really fit to live in at all. Can anyone really doubt that the country is what man was born for and where he truly belongs?
_________has become a country with an increasing number of old people. By old people we usually mean persons over the age of sixty. We often call them senior citizens instead of old men to show our respect.
Most senior citizens retire or no longer work full-time. They usually live in their own houses not far from their children's, while the children of a few senior citizens have gone abroad and work or study far beyond the oceans. For certain senior citizens, tile years after retirement are not very enjoyable. First, they feel that their lives lose meaning for being at home all day. In addition, they may feel lonely, especially those without children around. Moreover, they become more concerned with their health, as they grow older, and worry a lot about their safety. At the same time, many senior citizens enjoy their lives. They feel free to do things they were not able to do when they were working and raising their families. They spend their time travelling, doing exercises or watching TV. They get together with their fellow members who have the common interests and equal free time.
In fact, there are some still continuing their work, not just for money, but to show their value. However, no one really wants to be old, and perhaps all like to be young forever.
At one time or another, most of us will come to a point in our lives when it’s time to determine our next step. As a business and success coach, I often hear from people who are wondering if it’s time to make a change in their lives. Things may be going well, or not-so-well, but for whatever reason, they’re thinking that it’s time for change. They come to me for help figuring out what’s next in their career.
Most people are not in jobs that they planned and studied for. As a matter of fact, it’s pretty clear that many people are in careers that just “happened.” They started working at a job thinking it was going to be something they’d do until they decided what they really wanted to get involved in, and then they just stayed around until it became a kind of career.
In other cases, individuals are in jobs or professions based on the guidance or encouragement of other people in their lives. Perhaps their parents always wanted a doctor in the family. Maybe their boyfriend or wife kept telling them they were capable of “better” things and needed to get moving on their career. My point is this: Regardless of how they got to where they are now, it wasn’t, for most of the population, a well thought-out plan that was skillfully executed.
In my coaching practice, I’ve learned that this situation often translates into people doing work that really isn’t right for them personally. They may be doing okay, but they sure don’t bound out of bed looking forward to getting to work each day.
We are all more successful when we are doing things we enjoy. To help clients decide what that may be, I ask them a few questions designed to get them to take an honest look at who they are at their core.
For those of you who’ve been thinking, “Maybe I should make the move into management,” I’ve put together this list of 10 warning signals. If any of these hit you as your personal reality, the chances are that you are not cut out to be a manager.
Everything seems fresh to me when I entered the college.
My college life is entirely different from the the life in high school.College life is an important stage in my life.
The campus looked very large and there were so many buildings. I was very excited and curious when the first class began. I have a great number of new schoolmates who came from different parts of the country. In the library, there were so many books and several bright reading-rooms. I was determined to study hard.
I lived at the dormitory, not at home, as did in high school. The great difference, I feel, is that at college I should study all by myself.
It is in college that I began to live and study by myself, even plan further for myself. Meanwhile, in college I will change and become matured and fully grown up, both physically and mentally

Nowadays an increasing number of students' flats have TV receivers installed in them. TV presents a vivid world in front of tudents. Boys could enjoy sports games at will. Some programs help students recharge (再充電) their knowledge and keep them abreast of(跟上) modern developments. TV receivers enrich their learning life.
Obviously, students are not free from any troubles. Some students are addicted to(沉溺于) TV. TV receivers in some flats are still on late at night or never turned off on weekends. Some students spend much spare time watching TV programs, which is seriously interfering with their responsibilities at school. Still some students' eyes are getting worse.
In my opinion, moderation (適度,適可而止) is the key to everything including watching TV programs. I would not recommend that students try to eliminate TV receivers totally from their flats. However, we need to strike some kind of a balance between the TV programs and school studies. Learning to successfully manage time at a young age will definitely pay off in later life.
在第二段引述個人看法時,常用 in my opinion, I think, I believe, according to my understanding, in my personal judgment, I definitely hold the idea thatm I maintain thatmin my viewmin my eyes 等短語。
How time flies! It has been two years since I came to XXX College. In the two years, many things have happened. I also meet a lot of friends here.
Two years is not too long for man's life. But the two years I lived on campus has changed me a lot. For example, from the day I was born to the day I went to school, I had never left home alone for a long time and do housework by myself. How to deal with my roommates and classmates? These questions were all difficult for me to work out at that time. Today I get on well with them and do everything in life calmly. But all these changes were not easy for me. Sometimes I feel lonely, angry and also homesick. But fortunately I meet a lot of good friends. They helped me spend these sad days. I find words cannot express my sincere thanks to them. When they need help, I will do everything I can to help those who helped me before.
I'll have another two years in college, which I will treasure with my friends. Everything in college will be my great memory in my life for ever.
