Happy 30th birthday! It’s me, your 20-year-old self. Do you still remember the day when you wrote this e-mail?
The other day, Rachel was having her 30th birthday, and she was stressed out thinking that she had achieved nothing. It reminded me that I should make resolutions about what I want to achieve before my 30th.
This idea got me to consider my future. Before, my life was marked with the only theme — college. Now, looking ahead, there will be people I have to get along with though I may hate them, and things I have to deal with which I used to regard as worthless. The way to get through is not cold war or stubbornness (固執(zhí)) but compromise and communication.
What I am going to face is a society, not a locked classroom. So what are you doing? Do you still lock yourself up when you have trouble with people around?
I know I am shy and only focus my attention on study. But I sincerely hope that you are not like me, a mind easily affected by the outside world. After years of experience, hopefully you have risen out of that small world and hold a place of your own.
However, there are also things that I don’t want you to change. Are you still the guy who believes in his judgment and has faith in life? Remember: try to find something cheerful in spite of difficulties.

Those were not things for Linda because she was too little. They were not for Jane, either. She was too big. They were all things just for Mary, no longer little like Linda, and not yet big like Jane.
